Gernika to Zamudio: 16 miles

The forecast for today’s hike?  Heavy thunderstorms with a major dose of sloppy mud on the side.

Yes, rain was the most significant thing that happened to us today, which is a great thing, actually.  We’re starting to get conditioned to the trail and to the weight of our backpacks, and it was easier to tackle those tough hills without me needing frequent rest breaks or having mini meltdowns.

The massive thunderstorm meant that that we were hiking in wet socks and squishy shoes for much of the day, but the weather was warm enough to keep our discomfort to a manageable level.

Overall, we had a a really good day!
